A New Chapter for Revere: Progress,
Pride, and Promise in 2026
D
ear Residents, Family, Friends
and Neighbors,
As we welcome 2026, I want
to wish you and your loved ones
a safe, prosperous, and healthy
New Year. The start of a new year
is a perfect time to refl ect on
our community’s collective wins
and accomplishments. The City
of Revere is a healthy, progressive
place because of your hard
work and friendship. Refl ecting
on 2025, we also have a perfect
vantage point to make the necessary
adjustments on areas we
came up short; that’s the beauty
of starting fresh in 2026.
The past year was one of signifi
cant progress. Together, we
navigated the impacts of major
infrastructure projects and
saw new parks and businesses
come to life. We broke ground
on generational projects and
opened the doors to the next
generations of Revere families.
I am especially proud of
our community’s spirit of giving,
food drives, warm clothes,
coats and toys, and thousands
of volunteer hours served by our
neighbors. We showed our true
strength as a community day in
and day out.
As we turn the page to a new
chapter in 2026, our administration
remains dedicated to Public
Safety, Economic Growth, and
Infrastructure Improvements.
We will continue to invest in
our fi rst responders to ensure
improved response times and
community safety. We will support
our local small businesses
and attract new opportunities
that make our city more resilient
and lessen the burden on
our taxpayers. Perhaps most
importantly, we will be breaking
ground on much-anticipated
projects like our new Regional
911 call center and Early
Childhood learning space, our
beloved McMackin Park and of
course continued investment in
safe and reliable drinking water.

fi rst win after an 0-3 start. The
Patriots responded with a balanced
eff ort and timely plays
down the stretch, edging the
Mustangs, 53-50, at home.
Junior forward Nico Cespedes
scored twice inside early;
senior center Zaney Kayembe
added an off ensive putback;
and junior guard Wesley
Nunez knocked down a
3-pointer as Revere built an
early lead. The Patriots’ bench
played a signifi cant role in the
second quarter, helping Revere
take a 26-17 advantage
into halftime. Medford pushed
back after the break, trimming
the lead with an early run, but
Revere answered with baskets
from Kayembe, Lucca Albano,
Bryan David and Nunez to
maintain control. The Patriots
opened a nine-point lead midway
through the fourth before
Medford closed to within
three in the final minute.
Kayembe drew a key offensive
charge late and Nunez fi nished
a strong drive to the basket
to seal the win.
Nunez finished with 12
points, four rebounds and
three assists, while David
added 12 points and fi ve rebounds.

team sport. Our bench gave us
41 of our 53 points. We are definitely
learning from each other
and improving. We made
the plays and played a full 32
minutes.”
The Patriots carried that momentum
into the fi rst round
of their Holiday Tournament,
defeating Malden, 64-49, to
earn a spot in the championship
game. Revere built an early
lead behind baskets from
Cespedes, Nunez and Dobre,
while David provided a strong
presence inside. Albano added
scoring from the perimeter
as the Patriots took a 2817
lead into halftime.
Malden closed the gap in
the third quarter behind hot
outside shooting, but Revere
matched the surge. Dobre
provided a momentum boost
with a steal and breakaway
dunk, and the Patriots maintained
a nine-point cushion
entering the fourth. Senior
tri-captain Devin Berry scored
all six of his points in the fi nal
quarter, while Albano, David
and Dobre continued to produce
off ensively.
Dobre led Revere with 16
points, six rebounds and three
steals, while David posted 13
points and 10 rebounds. Albano
added 15 points as the Patriots
closed out the win.
“It was an important win for
us for two reasons,” Leary said.
“We obviously wanted to be

Stamatopoulos sets
record in track;
Revere girls basketball
regroups for 2026
By Dom Nicastro
A
fter back-to-back losses to
Marblehead (49–22) and
Bedford (45–34), the Revere girls
basketball team spent the holiday
break locked in on skill development
and handling fullcourt
pressure — an area that
exposed some growing pains
for a still-developing group.
“We used the time to really
drill on our response to pressure
defenses and shore up rebounding
— both of which hurt
us before the break,” said head
coach Ariana Rivera.
The Patriots’ struggles against
Marblehead’s press prompted
the team to double down on
simulating high-pressure game
scenarios in practice. Rebounding
has also become a key emphasis,
especially as Rivera’s
squad works through a depth
challenge that limits the bench
to six or seven players.
Despite those limitations, Rivera
sees the recent stretch not
as setbacks, but as crucial learning
opportunities that set the
tone for the second half of the
season. “We’ve used the break to
focus and reset,” she said. “These
are the kinds of games that help
us grow.”
Now, all eyes are on the upcoming
matchups against Chelsea
and Malden, where Rivera
hopes to see improved ball control,
sharper rebounding and
better execution under pressure.
“The girls have responded
well,” she said. “We’re optimistic
about the next stretch.”

Senior captain Gemma StamI
atopoulos
continued her decorated
campaign by setting a
new school record in the indoor
400 meters, clocking a 65.32
at the Greater Boston League
open meet on Jan. 2. Though
the 400 is rarely contested indoors,
Stamatopoulos seized
the rare opportunity.
“It was exciting for Gemma
to get this opportunity to add
her name to another record,”
said head coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli.
Senior
captain Rania Hamdani
added to the day’s highlights
with a debut time of 6:30
in the mile — her fi rst race at
the distance. Remarkably, she
followed that up less than 10
minutes later with a 69-second
split in the 400 meters.

Holiday Challenge, taking 14th
in a stacked 600-meter field
(1:45.18) and tying her all-time
PR in the high jump at 4 feet, 10

her ticket to the Division 2 state

the 800 meters the next day at
the MSTCA Distance Classic with
a time of 2:30.18.
Hamdani also made headlines
that weekend with a lifetime
best of 45.93 in the 300

barrier early in the season.
She anchored a 4x200meter
relay squad that included
Jaliyah Manigo, Danni Hope

combined for a 1:57.55 fi nish.
Meanwhile, senior captains
Dayana Ortega (10.40) and Basma

and Olivia Rupp pushed
through illness to record a 6:02

hit a lifetime best in the

As the Patriots look ahead
to the Northeast Invitational,

more records could fall.
