Rain forced the male-female team event to be reduced to one round as Alan and Lou Hart (Meridian) recorded a 10-under-par 62 to win the championship flight by one stroke over Glenn Patrick (Madison) and Lucy Nunn (Hattiesburg). Three VGA members (Adam Napier, Kyle Hamer and Mike Matt) participated in the National Tournament and all three finished in the top 5. Napier (Collins, Miss.) finished third in the Wounded Veterans Flight A after rounds of 75 and 84. Napier’s 159 was 13 shots behind the winning score. In the Family Flight C division, Matt (Slidell, La.) was fourth after rounds of 89 and 75.The 164 total was 18 shots behind the flight winner. Hamer (Bossier City, La.) finished fifth in the Veterans B Flight after rounds of 77 and 78 allowed him to finish with a 155, which was seven shots back of the winning score. Jedd Johnson started off his November golf weekend with some excitement as the 56-year-old Denham Springs, La. resident and Greystone Golf and Country Club member managed to ace the third hole at his home club twice in two days this past weekend. Johnson, who has been playing golf for 25 years, recorded the duplicate feats on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3.The shot were both with an 8-iron and both 147 yards. In fact, the pin was in the same spot for both hole-in-ones, which were the first two of his lifetime.There were some slight differences in the shots though. During the first one, he was playing with Brian Davenport, Ken Ford and James Moak and the shot landed past the hole and spun back in the cup. On the second one, Davenport and Ford were with him along with Gene Termini.That shot hit short and left of the cup and rolled in setting off some excitement at the semi-private club in Denham Springs. The team format involved one professional and one amateur playing six holes of a scramble, six holes of four-ball and six holes of alternate-shot format. Struthers is an amateur and Thomas is a PGA Professional at The University Club in Baton Rouge. The winning duo fired a bogey-free round of 53, which was 9-under-par.They shot a 25 on the front nine and a 28 on the second nine with six birdies on the front and three on the back.The event drew 34 players (17 teams).Team Lee (David and Sam) were second at 55 along with the team of Devin Thomas and John Dupont. Coming in fourth (56) was the duo of Clay Weems and Lana Hodge, who posted a 23 on the front nine with six birdies and an eagle. Closest-to-the-hole winners were pro Allan Martel and amateur Richard Voorhies. In fact, I'd say it's one of the top priorities when golfers work on their swing. Hitting balls on the driving range might seem like a clear solution, but spending too much time on the range increases your chance of an overuse injury — putting too much stress on some muscles, while neglecting others. Adding mobility training to your routine just might be the missing piece. Improving your flexibility increases your range of motion in the golf swing, reduces swing flaws caused by tight muscles, and produces more club head speed. The result? Greater distance. Here are three exercises that will help improve posture, range of motion, and build a stronger foundation for every shot. DYNAMIC COBRA Lie face down, placing your hands under your shoulders. Exhale, squeezing the legs together to activate the lower body. Inhale, lifting the chest off the floor with the elbows bent. Focus on keeping your shoulders down and away from the ears. Exhale to lower to the floor. Repeat 5-7 times. TWISTING TABLE On all fours, place your right hand behind your head, elbow out to the side. Inhale and twist open toward the ceiling. Exhale and tuck your right shoulder under your left shoulder. Repeat 5-7 times on each side. ROTATING EXTENDED SIDE ANGLE Stand with legs in a wide stance.Turn the right toes out, and bend the right knee at 90 degrees. Make sure your knee is tracking in line with the toes. Extend the left leg behind you, rotating the leg and foot internally at 45 degrees. Bring your right forearm to your quad and extend your left arm forward. Inhale, reaching your left arm toward the sky, exhale to rotate your arm and torso toward the floor. Repeat seven times on each side. The tour, which is run by Peach Waller (Pace, Fla.), will have 11 events to celebrate its 20th year in business. The first stop on the 2020 schedule actually takes place Dec. 14-15 at TimberCreek Golf Club in Spanish Fort, Ala. There is no tournament in January and things pick back up for the tour on Feb. 8-9 with an event at Cotton Creek at Craft Farms in Gulf Shores,Ala. On March 4-5, the Hacker’s Amateur Tour will be at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Navarre, Fla. and on April 4-5, the tour will be at Scenic Hills Country Club in Pensacola, Fla. Stonebrook Golf Club (Pace, Fla.) will be the site for the May 2-3 tournament, while Shell Landing Golf Club (Gautier, Miss.) will play host to the June 13-14 tourney. On July 11-12, the tour will be at Perdido Bay Golf Club in Perdido Key, Florida.The Aug. 8-9 venue for the Hacker’s Amateur Tour is Cypress Bend at Craft Farms in Gulf Shores. The season concludes with stops at The Peninsula in Gulf Shores (Sept. 12-13), Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier, Miss. (Oct. 3-4) and Rock Creek Golf Club in Daphne, Ala. (Nov. 7-8). The tour is open to male golfers 21 or older with an established handicap of 32 or less. All tournaments are a individual competition and the scoring is a Modified Stableford format.
