their projects, and the target demographic was
predominantly male. In the end, In order to make the
story different, It was Takeuchi who suggested Saber
be a woman. Thus came about the birth of one of
the most iconic characters in anime history.
The original idea for Fate was
animated in 2011 for the Carnival
Phantasm anime. It serves
as a celebratory anniversary
piece of various Type-Moon
series including Fate. The
OVA was so well recieved,
it spawned a Light Novel
expansion intothis universe
called Fate/Prototype:
Fragments of Blue and
Sky Silver.
Fate/Stay Night is the most successful
entry into the Nasuverse. Its’ characters
and themes have continued to have
impact on other stories today.
Fate/Stay Night was released as a visual novel in
2004, and serves as Type-Moon’s first, and most
successful, commercial release to date. Nasu stated
in a past interview that he was heavily inspired
by the manga series Samurai Ressurection by Futaro
Yamada.. Much later on, Fate would adapt
the story into Fate/Grand Order’s story as :Tournament
of the Seven Blade-Masters: Shimosa.
The novel was originally going to be
much longer. A total of 4 routes were
initially planned, although due to time
constraints and conflicting interests,
the number of routes were cut down
to 3 in the end.
Each of the
three routes
are known for
their masterclass

and insightful
look into the
nature of humanity,
including
what it
truly means
to realize the
reality of ones
own ideals, as
well as to look
into ones self to find a sense
of purpose in life.
In the most early drafts of the story, which was
initially planned to be a novel, Saber and many
of the others were men, and the protagonist a
girl. However, the story would not have resonated
with their target audience at Comiket.
The original PC release sold over
400 thousand copies in its’ initial
run in 2004. This makes it one of
the top-selling and highest
rated Visual Novels of all time.

The entire story was picked up
for Serial Publication by Kodansha,
who combined all previous
material into 3 volumes.
An official publication meant
that the series could expand
further, which led to sales
skyrocketing to over 500,000 sold
total.
The Garden of Sinners, or Kara No

first work written for the Nasuverse.
When Type-Moon was still Takebouki, in 1998.
The series was first
written as a single book
with 5 chapters and
was first published
on the Takebouki site
before physical copies

sold. It sold enough
that the series continued
with a second
volume the next year.
Upon the release of the
updated version of Lunar
Legend Tsukihime,
Nasu included digital
copies of the novel in a disk of the bundled
game. This release saw unpresedented success
and led to rising sales of Type-Moon products.
The story was considered completed even in

of the burning questions related to the rest of
In 2007, a year
after the anime
adaptation of
Fate by Studio
Deen, the later
Studio staple
for the franchise,
Ufotable, started
adapting the novel into a series of movies
that would cover the 2 volumes of material.
The movies also added original stories of
their own, including the OVA’s: Recalled Out

from the later movies and give an extra bonus
for fans of the series.
The movies are currently being re-released on
Blu-Ray in individual copies. The first movie in

׉	7cassandra://VLjHj1OdvHXuuYKAm90ok-frjjnAKwKcHzZK9q4cOcUW`_FۮmIb׉ETsukihime went through an extensive trial phase
that lasted for well over a year, seeing prototype
releases at Comiket winter in 1999, giving away
copies for free. During this time, they made several
revisions based on the trial period, and had
to make more cuts to the story in order to
release it on time.
Unfortunately, there
are no surviving
images of this,
due to so little
copies made in
the first place.
Fortunately, there is another
prototype edition that came out just
before the game officially came out that included
2 routes. (The only ones that were finished
at the time), called the Half-Moon edition.
The Story of Tsukihime sets many series
prescedents for the Nasuverse,
becoming the inspiration for many
other stories and Video Games.
Tsukihime is the very first published visual novel
by Nasu under the Type-Moon moniker. Just like
Fate/Stay Night, its’ origins were quite different
from the first idea to final publication. Originally
planned as a regular novel, it would have told
the story of a vampire princess named Arcueid
Brunestud, and another vampire who has been
has been trying to hunt her
down for generations.
No Prototype material
would be made of
this aside from
character names.
The main character,
Arcueid was supposed to
have a “noble, spoiled princess
type” personality, which overlapped
much with another character and didn’t
make her stand out. She was eventually
revamped to be more mysterious, elusive,
and conniving closely aligned with her goal,
hunting down an ancient, murderous vampire.
After the resounding
financial success of Fate,
Nasu and Takeuchi expressed
interest in going
back and fixing up parts
of Tsukihime that were
rushed and restore content
that was originally cut for
time. As such, in June of
2008, Type-Moon officially
announced that they were
working on a remake with
enhanced visuals, updated
soundtrack, voice acting,
and an added route for a
fan favorite character :Satsuki Yamizuka.
News faded on the project as Type-Moon
worked on other projects. However, there was
more news during the 10th anniversary event
in 2015 during Type-Moon Fest, which released
brand new character designs that matched
Takeuchi’s modern art style.
