Oh the heat of summer!
It's getting hotter, earlier this year so the spring days where we
drove around with the sunroof open are long gone. We have
also noticed how much extra heat the Porsche puts off in the
garage. It sure it pretty sitting in there but who knew how much
heat it would put off!
We hope that your summer days are filled with smiles,
sunscreen and lots of water! And if you end up driving to any
large bodies of water and capture photos of your Porsche
beauty in the sun, be sure to send them our way!
Cheers,
Amanda & Michael McKinney

CIMARRON TRAIL
PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
By J ason To l l i son
Willkommen Cimarron Region members, we are
glad you are with us. The Porsche Club of America
is big, really big. You just won’t believe how vastly
huge mindbogglingly big it is. Ok, perhaps is not as
big as space but compared to most car clubs it has
some heft. There have been occasions that I have
been talking with an acquaintance and I mention
my involvement with the car club. As I expound the
aspects of our club activities and meetings the
question of how many members do you have will
come up. I casually say, “over 400 with primary and
co-members in our region, and 10,000 or so
globally”. It is at this point in the conversation I get
some interesting looks that express wonder and
doubt. To say it is a just a car club is such an
understatement. With so many systems needed to
make the PCA and our region (Go Cimarron) work
and grow it takes a fair amount of work, dedication,
and you to make it wonderful. Danke to everyone
that takes the time and energy out of your life to
help make the largest single brand car club in the
world a success.
The Mayfast DE at Hallett had an amazing turnout
of drivers, with many first time on the track
participants. I am excited to see new faces coming
out giving the sport driving a try. Gary Bernard put
together an excellent team of instructors whom
worked hard to get everyone comfortable on the
track. I heard many positive comments from
attendees the event. If you are looking for more
track time, we have another 2-day DE at Hallett
coming in August.
Do you want more activities? Keep an eye on the
events calendar posted on our
cimarronregionpca.org website. Social dinners,
autocross, driving tours and more. If you have any
suggestions for events or improvements, or if you
would like to volunteer some time please contact
any of our board members.
Happy Driving!

AUTOCROSS UPDATE
By Mi ke Fugat e
2018 Autocross Schedule!
Autocross (also called "Solo", "Auto-x" or
"Autoslalom") is a timed competition in which
drivers navigate one at a time through a defined
course on either a sealed or an unsealed surface. It
is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe
competition and active participation. Autocross
differs from Road racing in that generally there is
only one car on the track, driving against the clock
rather than other cars. As an entry-level
motorsport it provides a stepping stone for drivers
looking to move into other more competitive and
possibly expensive forms of racing (such as
rallying and circuit racing).
The Cimarron Region PCA Autocross is a great way
to get your feet wet if you want to further hone
your driving skills and learn more about car control
and limits. It's not only a competitive event but a
learning and social event as well.
For the 2018 season we will have 14 counting
events with several practice and make up events
scheduled as well. This is a tentative schedule and
subject to change. Please keep an eye on the
Cimarron Region website for updates.

CIMARRON TRAIL
ZONOTES
By J on J ones
I sold my 1979 911 today. It was a beautiful car, and I
got a fair price.
I bought the car in 2004, and it was my dream car.
An SC is not without issues, and I learned quickly
about head studs and chain tensioners. With the
help of my local shop, Rennsport Werkstatt in
Tulsa, I did most of the work myself, along with
some “while you’re in there things”, it was all done.
Doing it myself it was one of the best things I have
experienced about Porsche ownership. Once the
work was done, I put over 40k miles on it, and
enjoyed every minute.
And then: As 911 values have increased, I became
increasingly angst-y about driving it in town.
Declared value on insurance is an odd thing and
subject to some negotiation. The more I drove it,
the more vulnerable I felt. Not me, I’m a good
driver. You see, I drive professionally (school bus)
and the number of “I can drive and read my emails”
people are epidemic, literally. Next, I don’t like to
drive it in the rain. OK, fine. It’s galvanized. But I
had rust around the windshield when I bought it. I
fixed it, but then decided I no longer wanted to
expose it to the elements. Salt – Oklahoma salts
the bridge decks in the winter. Enough said. Air
Conditioning – I love Porsche, but the a/c installed
in the mid-year 911s was an afterthought, a hat-tip
to the American market. My car had documentation
going back to 1984 showing repeated attempts to
get the a/c working. Call me spoiled, but the 911 in
an Oklahoma August was a FURNACE. A/C, face it
folks, it ain’t gonna happen. Bottom line – I wasn’t
driving it the way I should have.
When I showed the car to the prospective, and
soon to be new owner, I showed him the
documentation I had. I surprised myself as I did so
with all of the things I had done to it over the years.
Oil changes of course, but brakes, tires, and major
maintenance. Valve adjustments and brake fluid
flushes. And on and on. I was proud of the care I
have given to my 911. It was loved and appreciated
for all of the fun a 911 can bring. But it was time to
move on.
The new owner is a PCA member from Ozark Lakes
Region. We talked for quite a while about the
strengths and weaknesses of the SC generation.
He understood and asked pointed questions about
the 915 gearbox and the paint quality. I really
enjoyed meeting him and his wife when they came
and looked at the car. And I feel like it’s going to a
good home. Kind of like a kitten you’re parting
with.
PCA is a wonderful club – this was reinforced to me
as I sold my beloved 911. The new owner offered a
deposit, but I declined. “You’re a PCA member?” I’ll
take your word.
Best wishes with the car. And please take good
care of her.
