Vintaj Natural Brass Co. is a dream fulfilled of three women-sisters Wendy Mullane and Jeanne Holland, along with their close friend, Jess Italia Lincoln. Born with kindred spirits the three were brought together through their passion for jewelry design in a place offering natural beauty, history and inspiration-the small eclectic and art inspiring town of Galena IL. The spark ignited when Wendy and Jeanne were teaching jewelry design to a women’s group in their church in the spring of 2001. Playfully and artfully manipulating a filigree bead, Jeanne opened it and wrapped it around a glass stone. Wendy and Jeanne immediately realized the unlimited potential of what they now term “creative settings” and began to design together full time as Vintaj Design Studios. Not only did this venture give the opportunity for an income and creative outlet, but also it allowed time for the things they considered most important: raising their children and serving in the community. Wanting to share this opportunity with others like themselves, they began to explore the notion of offering their jewelry components to the beading industry. Impressed with Jess’s unique sense of design, creativity, talent and fervor, Wendy and Jeanne invited her to join them. They are opaque inks specially formulated to adhere to metal and create beautiful and durable patina effects. Use the dark gray side of a Reliefing Block to remove patina from the raised areas of the dragonfly. To add durability to the patina finish, heat the entire piece with a heat tool. Just remember to reverse your image for words, letters and numbers when printing out. 5. ׉ 7cassandra://HkWRXw7AeK8fb5ONpEFhUArKVZuU_auySTPefEEBxaI7<`^&v< O׉E1 2 3 Trace the outline of a blank onto a black and white laser photo copy or high quality Epson Photo 1400 ink jet print. 4 Use a flat tip paint brush to apply an even layer of gold acrylic paint to the surface of the altered blank. 5 While paint is still wet, place the painted side of the blank inside the traced outline. Allow paint to dry for a couple of hours. 7 Once completely dry, spray water from a Mini Mister over the paper backing. Be sure the entire surface is saturated. 8 Gently rub your finger over the wet paper. Start in the center of the blank, carefully removing it from the image. 9 • Pencil • Paint Brush • Popsicle Stick • Mini Mister • Non-Stick Craft Sheet • Metal Awl Helpful Tips Re-wet and repeat as necessary. Once the surface has dried it will slightly whiten again, leaving a cloudy finish. Mix equal parts of ICE Resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Place blank on a non-stick craft sheet. Use a popsicle stick to apply resin to the blank, covering the entire surface. Allow to cure overnight. While mostly cured, use a metal awl to remove excess resin from the blank hole.
