Summer is approaching quickly and we are enjoying the
sunshine before it gets too hot.
But one thing we aren't enjoying is the threat of tornadoes. The
idea of hail damage on any of our cars, especially the Porsche,
makes us nervous. However, it's a good thing we know people
who can fix that if we do end up caught in bad weather. That is
definitely another one of the perks of this club, there are so
many connections! Not just for car stuff but life in general. We
have really enjoyed getting to know everyone and look forward
to meeting all the new members!
Cheers,
Amanda & Michael McKinney

CIMARRON TRAIL
PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
By J ason To l l i son
We had another exciting month with the Cimarron
Region PCA club. I would like to give a nod to Jay
Jackson, Jean Kelly, and Bill Jacobi for their hard
work bringing back the Spring Fling in Miami event.
With a strong participation from our members
everyone seemed to have a fun time and I call that
a success. Spring weather brought some rain, but it
waited for them to complete the Concours on the
main street. The site at the Coleman Theatre pairs
very well with the Porsches and our club. I suggest
you attend next year’s event.
I was working on my 911 and had found a broken
part. Trying to get the car ready for a drive in a few
days, ordering a replacement would make me miss
the event. A fellow club member had a spare part
and offered it to me, so I could participate. This
may seem like a simple gesture to some but to me
this is a pinnacle example of what our car club is
about. Members helping members out, sharing
knowledge, abilities, and parts. The cars and the
people brought together.
Next month we have a driving tour to Kansas to see
the Salt Mines and museum. There are many
autocrosses scheduled, tech sessions, DE’s and
more. If you have a suggestion for an event or just
want to have a quick get together contact Steve
Canada our Social Chair, or any of the officers and
we will spread the word.
The 63rd Annual Porsche Parade is coming soon,
and they are looking for volunteers. If you can help,
please contact them. They many activities planned
for a fun week.
Happy Driving!

AUTOCROSS UPDATE
By Mi ke Fugat e
2018 Autocross Schedule Release!
We are quickly approaching autocross season.
Time to dust off those helmets and get ready for
some fun driving and friendly competition!
Autocross (also called "Solo", "Auto-x" or
"Autoslalom") is a timed competition in which
drivers navigate one at a time through a defined
course on either a sealed or an unsealed surface. It
is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe
competition and active participation. Autocross
differs from Road racing in that generally there is
only one car on the track, driving against the clock
rather than other cars. As an entry-level
motorsport it provides a stepping stone for drivers
looking to move into other more competitive and
possibly expensive forms of racing (such as
rallying and circuit racing).
The Cimarron Region PCA Autocross is a great way
to get your feet wet if you want to further hone
your driving skills and learn more about car control
and limits. It's not only a competitive event but a
learning and social event as well.
For the 2018 season we will have 14 counting
events with several practice and make up events
scheduled as well. This is a tentative schedule and
subject to change. Please keep an eye on the
Cimarron Region website for updates.

CIMARRON TRAIL
ZONOTES
By J on J ones
As a 14-year member of PCA, I have never attended
Parade as a member. I was at Spokane last year as
the Zone 5 Representative, but I had no car having
flown in for the Board Meeting and didn’t stay until
the end. This year will be the first year I will attend
from start to finish, accompanied by my lovely wife
Joy – her first Parade, too.
Why? As I have noted previously, Parade was not
the primary reason we joined PCA. We were mostly
focused on technical information and contacts
within the club to expand our knowledge of all
things Porsche. We are both racing enthusiasts,
and have been focused on Porsche’s racing exploits
since the ‘70s when we courted. Many days at Lime
Rock, where we grew up, were spent watching the
Greggs, Holberts, and Keysers of the Porsche world
triumph over all comers. The history of Porsche in
motorsport is truly legend, and we are thrilled to be
part of it through PCA, if only in a miniscule way.
This year we decided to go all-in and experience our
first Parade, mostly because it is in our backyard.
Osage Beach, MO, is close by and the Tan-Tar-A
resort looks great. We registered early (#53!), and
we began thinking about what we wanted to do
event-wise. I plan on driving my ’79 911 which is in
pretty good shape, but at 39 years old you never
know. So we decided to take it easy on the old girl,
and focus more on volunteering to help make the
Parade experience better for everyone. So far, we
have signed up to volunteer for the Rally, Concours,
and Autocross. We both enjoy the volunteer
experience and are looking forward to meeting new
PCA friends.
While volunteering is important to us, I could not
resist the opportunity to enter the 911 in the
Concours. I have no illusions about the condition it
is in, but I wanted to have the one time experience
of preparation, presentation, and judging. As with
most Porsche owners, I love my car and want other
people to love it, too. We’ll see what the judges
think.
We found the registration process easy. I’ve heard
there have been some problems in the past, but we
had an easy time. We selected the dinners we
wanted, the activities, and the volunteer
opportunities in a simple, straightforward way.
One thing we were cautioned about from veteran
Parade-goers was not to overload ourselves. As
we found out with the registration process, Parade
offers so many activities, options and events that it
is easy to get carried away with fun things to do.
Since Parade is also our summer vacation this
year, we tried to pick one or two activities per day
and allow for some down time to just enjoy the
resort.
On the Zone front, we will host a Zone 5 party for
all of the many Zone 5 people attending Parade. I
will send out a separate email to the Region
Presidents soon, but it will be at 4:30 on Sunday,
July 8th, in the Grand Foyer of the Wingate Plaza.
We’ll offer light snacks (the Welcome Dinner
follows), and a cash bar. We hope you will join us
and your fellow Zone 5 PCA members.

One other note - if you are looking for information
from PCA, the website pca.org is a great resource.
There are links to almost every topic, and HQ
continues to work on upgrades to make it easier to
use. If you do need to call PCA Headquarters,
remember that the wonderful staff is there to help
you, but not necessarily to listen to you vent. If you
have a problem, please start with your Region
President and then me. I can be reached at 918
740-7951 or jonesjon843@gmail.com.

DETAILING CLINIC
The first Cimarron Club detailing clinic was held Saturday April 14 hosted by Auto Distinctions. Four professional
auto detailers spoke from 10:00-3:30 and taught us how to and how not to care for our cars. The 35 enthusiastic
attendees watched, listened, questioned and learned from our Summer ’18 DE sponsors and pros, Marshall Hill
and Trey Duvall of Total Auto Solutions, Eric Toigo of Garage Time Auto Reconditioning, and JP Johnson of Auto
Distinctions. The pros shared their experiences from many decades and had great comments for us amateurs. We
learned how to wash a car without damaging the paint, the differences between the various paint protection
products, why the new ceramic coatings may be our best choice for paint, why and how paint correction benefits
the surface, how to care for the interior surfaces, UV protection, and paint and glass protection films.
George Paul donated his car for the demonstration and now has a decision as the front left and right rear fenders

Special thank you to the presenters who sponsor our DE events and for sharing their knowledge and experience,
Eric, JP, Marshall, and Trey. Thank you to our fellow club member Eddie Hill who is single handedly fighting hunger
among club members by providing Domino’s pizza and drinks.
