LACDD NEWS
By Christine Wells, Interim LACDD Community Director
(cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com)
November welcomes back many of our seasonal residents and
brings renewed energy and excitement to Lake Ashton. It is a
wonderful time to reconnect with neighbors, welcome familiar
faces, and make new friends. Whether you have been part of
Lake Ashton for years or are experiencing your first season
here, we encourage you to take advantage of the many
opportunities our community has to offer. The Clubhouse and
resident clubs provide a variety of activities and events, and
the Activities Office is a great resource for learning about
upcoming programs. We are especially grateful for our
dedicated volunteers, club leaders, and staff members whose
time, talents, and efforts contribute so much to making Lake
Ashton a wonderful place to call home.
With more residents and guests enjoying the community,
safety and courtesy become especially important. Please
remember to obey the posted 20 mph speed limit and all stop
signs, remain attentive to pedestrians, bicycles, and golf carts,
and exercise additional caution as daylight hours become
shorter. Residents who enjoy evening walks are encouraged to
wear reflective clothing or carry a light to improve visibility. We
also ask everyone to be mindful of others when using our shared amenities and facilities. A little patience,
consideration, and cooperation go a long way toward ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for
everyone.
November is also a season of gratitude and an opportunity to reflect on what makes our community special.
Beyond our beautiful surroundings and wonderful amenities, it is the people of Lake Ashton who truly make
the difference. From neighbors helping neighbors to volunteers generously giving their time, these everyday
acts of kindness create the welcoming atmosphere we all appreciate. As we approach Thanksgiving, we
encourage everyone to find small ways to give back, support local charitable efforts, and show appreciation
to the staff and volunteers who work throughout the year to serve our community. Even a simple smile or
kind word can make someone's day a little brighter.
We also encourage residents to stay engaged and informed about District matters by attending Board of
Supervisors meetings and visiting lakeashtoncdd.com for important updates, meeting information, and
community announcements. Your participation and interest help support the continued success of Lake
Ashton.
On behalf of the Lake Ashton CDD Board of Supervisors and District staff, we extend a warm welcome home
to our seasonal residents and express our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributes to making Lake
Ashton such a special community. We wish you and your families a safe, healthy, and very Happy
Thanksgiving!

LAIICDD NEWS
By Karen Van Kirk, LAIICDD Community Director
(kvankirk@lakeashton2cdd.com)
November is a special time of year, with cultural, historical,
and seasonal significance that sets it apart from other
months, although the latter may not apply to Florida with its
never-ending summer, or so it seems. We may not
experience autumn with its falling leaves of red, yellow, and
gold, but we look forward to (in anticipation) cooler
temperatures, as we continue welcoming back our resident
snowbirds. Some residents may observe All Saints Day,
Diwali, or other religious and cultural holidays, while others
will celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving. We also honor our
military veterans on Veterans Day, paying tribute for their
sacrifices and contributions to our nation. November is also
the month where Americans can exercise their right to vote.
The Clubhouse and the HFC, in past years, have alternated
hosting a Community Potluck; however now they are only
hosting a Friendsgiving Potluck. This year the HFC is hosting
the 'Friendsgiving' potluck, reminiscent of years' past. We
will be providing the turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed
potatoes, hot rolls and cranberry sauce. You may purchase
your tickets for this event at the HFC with the deadline for
purchasing tickets on November 9.
The United States Marine Corp celebrates its birthday in
November and there are also other notable events such as
national Alzheimer’s and Diabetes awareness month. Cyber Monday and Black Friday also take place just
in time for bargain hunters looking for that perfect holiday gift. November is indeed a month filled with
activities and events galore, including Lake Ashton’s annual USO dance hosted by LAVA, on November 6,
beginning at 6 pm. Be sure to mark the date of Thursday, November 19 at 9 am for the LA II CDD Board
of Supervisors meeting. An email will also be provided with information on how residents can attend via
ZOOM.
Just as a reminder, you may get an RFID Decal and Golf Cart Sticker Monday through Friday between the
hours of 8 am and 4 pm at the HFC, and remember, all Lake Ashton residents are required to register
their golf carts. Prior to the HFC ending this year with a celebratory New Years’ Eve dance, it will host its’
Holiday dance dubbed “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree “on December 18, featuring the Tony Knight
band and the Bacon Wake Food Truck. If you have not attended a fitness class at the HFC in the past
month or so, you are in for a surprise with new classes and new instructors. Come on down and check out
what is happening at the HFC.

HAVE VISITORS?
November is a traditional time for residents to host
family and friends. Remember, when you see a visiting
grandchild, they are guests of your neighbors so please
extend every courtesy possible. Residents: please be
tolerant of extra activity at the pool and other
amenities. Those hosting family should remind them to
be considerate of residents in this 55 and older
community. It is helpful if a resident accompanies their
guests at any of the amenities, but is not required.
Anyone using amenities at the Clubhouse or HFC
should have a Lake Ashton Resident Amenity Access
Card or Facilities Guest Pass. All guests can be
registered at either Activities Desk during business
hours. Residents can call security (number on page 3)
to register their guests after hours. Renters must have
a copy of their fully executed rental agreement. Visit
the Clubhouse Office to get your resident amenity
access card (which also serves as your Resident Photo
ID Card) made during the published hours for
distribution or by appointment. Bring a driver's
license with your Lake Ashton address on it, or the
warranty deed for your home.
MEDIA CENTER REMINDER
Please DO NOT remove the newspapers from the
Murray Zacharia Media Center in the Clubhouse.
There is only one copy for residents to enjoy while in
the Media Center. Staff at the Clubhouse Activities
Office can make a copy of pages if you are
interested. Copies are 10 cents each.
Under no circumstances should residents
conduct work of any kind on CDD property. This
includes ponds, common areas, or conservation/
wetland areas. If there are any concerns
regarding pond erosion or other areas in need
of maintenance, Christine Wells
(cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com) for areas in Lake
Wales or Karen Van Kirk for areas in Winter
Haven(kvankirk@lakeashton2cdd.com).

A non-surgical option for damaged spinal discs, offered by a retired Navy surgeon. Consultations by web meeting —
no travel.
Gerald Mastaw, MD
Retired Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy
Wartime Surgeon | Lead Discseel® Provider and Trainer
“I served as a wartime surgeon before I practiced here in Florida. I know what years of physical demand do to a spine,
and I know how frustrating it is to be told that major surgery is the only option left. It isn’t always.
WHAT THE DISCSEEL® PROCEDURE IS
The Discseel® Procedure is a minimally invasive, outpatient treatment for damaged spinal discs. It uses fibrin — a biologic —
injected into tears in the disc wall. There is no cutting, no fusion hardware, and no laser. The procedure takes approximately 40
minutes and is performed with X-ray guidance under mild sedation.
It begins with an annulogramâ„¢, an imaging step that identifies tears standard MRI can miss.
CONDITIONS IT MAY BE CONSIDERED FOR
• Degenerative disc disease
• Annular tears
• Bulging or herniated discs
• Sciatica and radiating leg pain
• Chronic low back or neck pain
• Pain persisting after prior spine surgery, fusion, or laminectomy
Not every patient is a candidate. A consultation and imaging review determine whether the procedure is appropriate for your
condition.
FOR VETERANS
Covered through VA Community Care.
The Discseel® Procedure is covered for eligible veterans through the VA Community Care Network, administered by Optum.
We walk you through the referral process with the VA from start to finish. You don’t need to know the terminology or
navigate it alone — call us first and our team will handle it with you, step by step.
Your consultation is by web meeting.
NOT A VETERAN?
Discseel® is not covered by Medicare or most commercial insurance. We’ll review your imaging, tell you honestly whether you’re
a candidate, and give you clear pricing before you commit to anything. No obligation.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Consultation by web meeting. We review your imaging and history with you from home. No driving, no waiting room.
You’ll know whether you’re a candidate before you travel anywhere.
2. The procedure. Performed as an outpatient procedure at a surgical center in the Tampa metro area — a single visit,
approximately 40 minutes.

By Marianne Zak
Meet Larry and Vickie
Carman of Limerick
Drive, a dynamic duo
with a lifetime of
adventur e and
service behind them.
They met when
Vickie asked for a
ride on the back of Larry’s motorcycle, and they’ve
been riding together ever since! Married for 26
years, they have three children and nine
grandchildren, ages 2 to 17. Originally from Ohio,
they became Lake Ashton snowbirds in 2021 and
full-time residents in 2025.
Vickie began her career at age 16 as a Police
Explorer Scout, working with law enforcement until
she turned 21. She assisted with traffic stops,
accidents and community events, and worked
undercover in narcotics, purchasing drugs for police
lab analysis to help get dealers off the streets,
including those selling to children as young as 8.
After earning an associate degree in law
enforcement in 1978, Vickie spent 10 years in store
security and 21 years as a bail bondswoman with her
father’s Thomas E. Short Company. In 1986, she
graduated from the police academy and became a
dispatcher before moving into patrol and rising
through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief
of Police in Miami City, Ohio. She served as chief for
15 years and retired in 2004 as the department’s
only woman officer. She also taught basic police
academics at Edison State Community College for
10 years. Vickie remembers a community-focused
career filled with bike rodeos, helmet giveaways,
infant car seat installations and traffic patrol.
Fortunately, she only had to draw her gun twice.
Larry joined the Army after graduating high school in
1982, training in air defense and missile systems. In
1991, he was activated during Operation Desert
Storm, serving in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait.
During six years stationed in Germany, he suffered
hearing loss from a terrorist bombing at a PX in
Frankfurt that injured 34 people. He later served at
14
Fort Stewart, Georgia, and spent seven years as an
Army recruiter in Dayton, Ohio, before retiring. “I
really loved the Army. That was the foundation for
me to get started in life. It guided me in the right
direction, he said.
After the Army, Larry attended fire and paramedic
school and spent 20 years with Ohio’s Clearcreek
Fire District, eventually becoming Lieutenant and
Fire Marshal. He also taught basic life support and
advanced cardiac life support at Edison State
Community College for 10 years. “I loved to serve,
twenty years Army and twenty years fire service. I
miss it, he said.
Their adventures continued after they sold their
Ohio home in 2017 and moved into an RV at WrightPatterson
Air Force Base’s campground in Dayton.
For 10 years, they managed the 54-site
campground, overseeing lawn care, boat rentals and
organized activities. Downsizing from a 5,000square-foot
house to a 500-square-foot motor home
took some adjustment, Vickie recalled!
After four years as snowbirds, they retired and
settled full-time in Lake
Ashton. Their travels have
taken them to 45 states
and much of the world.
Most recently, they spent
three months traveling to
Alaska, where they were
lucky enough to see both
Mount Rainier and Mount
McKinley without cloud
cover. They even spotted
more wildlife in Canada
than in Alaska! Their two boxers, Oakley and Halo,
are constant travel companions.
At home, Larry and Vickie enjoy spending time with
their grandchildren, visiting Disney as annual
passholders, golfing, playing pickleball and Bingo,
and relaxing in their swimming pool.
From military service and public safety to firefighting
and community service, Larry and Vickie have
dedicated their lives to helping others. They’re
another wonderful reason Lake Ashton is “Simply
the Best.

The Boat-tailed Grackle
is a common year-round
resident of Lake Ashton
that cannot be missed!
This large, gregarious
blackbird is loud! The male (right) is an iridescent
blue-black with a long, keel-shaped tail. The
female (top left) leads most observers to believe
they are seeing a completely different species.
She is tawny-brown with slightly darker wings and
tail and is smaller than the male. Their
vocalizations sound like noisy, nonsensical chatter.
Usually found near the water or at bird feeders
their flamboyant demeanor calls attention to
themselves. An interesting fact is that the ones
south of Gainesville have dark eyes while those
farther north have yellow eyes. The male Boattailed
Grackles strut around boldly on long legs
with their tails cocked up. Males (often in small
groups) point their bills straight up into the air
attempting to attract the ladies.

LA (LW) HOA CORNER
By Charles Roland
A spirit of “THANKS and “GIVING is in the air as
we welcome back familiar faces, reconnect with
friends we’ve made along the way, and greet new
residents. The co-sponsored Good Neighbors Day
offered some much-needed camaraderie. The HOA
Board extends a special thank-you to everyone who
participates and shares feedback to help keep our
community beautiful, friendly and compliant.
There are several opportunities to get involved with
the HOA Board, committees and subcommittees,
helping provide continuity and improve
communication throughout our beautiful community.
As mentioned, two Board members’ terms are set to
expire in 2027, and we are looking for a nominating
committee. Your vote and your voice count, and
community participation is essential to keeping our
association strong. We are also working on the 2027
budget and continually reviewing guidelines and new
technologies that homeowners may find useful, while
remaining mindful of the natural beauty of our homes.
The guidelines are posted on the HOA website at
https://stambaugh.cincwebaxis.com/account/
loginmodernthemes as soon as they are available.
New homeowners will receive a copy in their
welcome packet at the Clubhouse. Any exterior
changes to your home will likely require an
Architectural Review Committee (ARC) request
through the ARC Tracker. If you need assistance with
the ARC Tracker software, our dedicated ARC
Committee members are ready to help. Please also
check your email regularly, as additional information
or questions may be sent regarding your request.
A reminder that a suggestion box is located next to
the bulletin board near the bowling alley for residents
who prefer to share their thoughts in writing.
To receive email notifications from the Lake Ashton
HOA, residents must submit a completed email
authorization form to the management company,
Stambaugh. For assistance, call 863-324-5100.
Finally, please remember to say “thank you to the
dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy
to our association. Their efforts help make Lake
Ashton the wonderful community we all enjoy.

scheduled for Thompson Nursery Road on
Thursday, November 12. Meet in the Clubhouse
Ballroom beginning at 8:30 am to pick up trash bags,
gloves, safety vests and trash grabbers. Volunteers
receive a free t-shirt and Bok Tower ticket each
calendar year. Please sign-up with Linda Sandel at
863-368-0699 or Sandelly7@gmail.com. Thank you
for helping to keep our community beautiful!
SAFEGUARD
STORM
DRAINS
Please do not place yard debris and clippings on top
or near stormwater inlets (as shown here). This could
get into the stormwater system causing damage or
clogging the system which could lead to localized
flooding. The District, made up of Lake Ashton
residents, are responsible for the maintenance of the
stormwater system within Lake Ashton so damages
come out of the budget which is largely funded by
resident assessments. Let’s all work together to
extend the life of our infrastructure.
REMINDER TO RESIDENTS AND GUESTS:
To maintain a clean and welcoming environment for all
residents, no flyers, business cards, advertisements,
promotional materials, or similar items may be posted,
displayed, or left at any Lake Ashton amenities. This includes
clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, bulletin boards, tables,
counters, and other common areas. Unauthorized materials
will be removed to ensure shared spaces remain uncluttered.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
(NW) CORNER
By Fay Wood, NW Chief
Know the Current Scams
As the holidays approach, the Lake Ashton
Neighborhood Watch team reminds residents to stay
alert to scams and fraud targeting older adults.
Knowing the warning signs and asking the right
questions can help protect you, your finances and your
neighbors.
Romance Scams: Fraudsters build online relationships
before asking for money for medical emergencies,
travel or other expenses. Consider: Have you ever met
this person in person? Do their claims of being a
celebrity or working overseas seem suspicious? Are
you feeling pressured to send money? Try an image
search to see if their photo appears elsewhere online.
Tech Support and Phantom Hacker Scams:
Scammers pose as technical support or law
enforcement, claiming your device or accounts have
been hacked. Consider: Did a pop-up warn you of a
problem and offer help? Was access to your device or
account requested? Have you consulted someone you
trust before responding? Never move money to a socalled
“safer account, and verify any law enforcement
officer’s identity independently.
Grandparent Scams: Callers
impersonate
grandchildren in urgent trouble and may insist you
keep the situation secret. Consider: Are you being
pressured to act immediately? Have you verified the
child's location with family? Is there a family safe word,
or can you ask questions only your grandchild would
know?
Phishing Scams: Fake emails and texts may imitate
banks or other legitimate businesses. Consider: Are
you being asked to click a link or provide passwords or
account information? Does the sender’s email domain
match the company? Never use links in suspicious
messages; contact the company using a verified
phone number or website.
Lottery and Government Grant Scams: Scammers
claim you’ve won a prize but demand fees to collect it.
Consider: Did you enter a contest? Is payment
required to receive your prize? Are they rushing you to
respond? Legitimate prizes do not require upfront
payments to claim winnings.
Government Impersonation: Fraudsters threaten
arrest or legal action over supposed unpaid taxes or
fines. Consider: Did you independently look up the
agency’s number and call directly? Are they
demanding payment through gift cards, wire transfers
or cryptocurrency? These are major warning signs.
Remember to take a step back, verify identities,
protect personal information, keep devices updated
and hang up or log off if something feels wrong.
If you see something, say something! Stickers listing
local police and Sheriff’s Office telephone numbers are
available at the Health & Fitness Center and
Clubhouse desks.

Hurricane season runs through November 30, and
residents are encouraged to stay prepared and alert.
Please review your emergency plans, check supplies,
and ensure you’re signed up for local alerts.
LAKE ASHTON CERT
By Ernie Harben
Want to learn valuable emergency skills while helping
your neighbors? Lake Ashton CERT (Community
Emergency Response Team) is looking for residents
who want to get involved and make a difference in our
community.CERT volunteers receive training to
support their neighbors during emergencies and
disasters, while also building practical skills in
preparedness, response and basic life safety. It’s an
opportunity to meet fellow residents, contribute to a
stronger, safer Lake Ashton, and be part of a team
that is ready to help when needed. No special
experience is required—just a willingness to learn and
lend a hand. For more information or to get involved,
contact ghbishop@gmail.com.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
With the return to standard time, the sun sets
earlier, meaning walkers, runners, bicyclists and golf
cart drivers may encounter low-visibility conditions
in the evening. Everyone can help keep Lake
Ashton safe by staying alert and following traffic
rules. All vehicles, including golf carts and bicycles,
must obey stop signs and the 20 mph speed limit
throughout Lake Ashton. Drivers should watch for
pedestrians and bicyclists at all times. Following
posted speed limits and traffic signs can help
prevent accidents and save lives. Be Safe & Be
Seen: Make Yourself Visible to Drivers!
• Wear bright or light-colored clothing and
reflective materials.
• Carry a flashlight when visibility is poor.
• Cross streets in well-lit areas.
• Stand clear of buses, hedges, parked cars and
other obstacles before crossing.
• Walk facing traffic so you can see oncoming
vehicles. Bicyclists should ride with traffic and
follow the same direction-of-travel laws as
other vehicles.

He and his kids soon learn that while he may not do

LA BLACK HERITAGE CLUB
By Pamela June
November is significant for U.S. Historic Firsts and
the Power of the Vote.
1938: Crystal Bird Fauset of Pennsylvania became
the first Black woman elected to a U.S. state
legislature, breaking racial and gender barriers.
32
1989: L. Douglas Wilder of Virginia became the first
Black American elected governor of a U.S. state.
1992: Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois became the
first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate.
2008: Barack Obama became the first Black
American elected President of the United States.
These achievements came despite racial
discrimination practices to deny political
participation. Many marched, protested, were
beaten, imprisoned, and even died to secure the
Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Voting is a cornerstone of democracy. The opportunity
to choose who represents us and who makes decisions
affecting our communities and country. Election Day is
November 3. LABHC honors those who fought for
voting rights and encourages everyone to learn about
the candidates, understand the issues, and participate
in the democratic process. Save The Date for the

SUPPORT COMMUNITY
CLUBS, GROUPS, AND
ORGANI ZATIONS
Residents interested in joining a new group should
visit the Clubhouse or HFC Activities Office to obtain
the contact information for the facilitator of the club,
group, or organization they are trying to join. Staff
always encourages residents to become more
involved in community activities designed to benefit
the body, mind, and spirit and with the support of the
many club, group, and organization facilitators this
will be possible for everyone. Supervisors and staff
would like to extend a special thank you to all the
club, group, and organization facilitators. These
volunteers work very hard to ensure there is a robust
activities schedule for all to enjoy. Lake Ashton is
lucky to have a large number of residents
willing to volunteer their time in one way or another
for everyone to live their best retired
life. Be sure to thank a volunteer when you see them.

By Dennis Santino
The Lake Ashton Pickleball Association (LAPA) would
like to welcome all our snowbirds back to Lake Ashton!
We had a successful and fun summer season, and the
fun continues. Our mixed doubles tournament takes
place on Monday nights, with the shootout scheduled
for November 14. Come out and support your favorite
team!
Our Halloween games were a big success, with lots of
fun and some interesting costumes. The winners were
not available at the time of publication, but we look
forward to sharing the results!
LAPA now has 190 members, and our Board of
Directors election is coming up in January. We
encourage members to start thinking about
nominations for President, Vice President, Treasurer
and At-Large positions. Each board before us has
continued to improve the playing experience for our
members, and we want to keep that momentum
going.
If you’re interested in running for an open position or
would like to nominate someone, please contact Mark
McDuff, who can explain the process. Let’s continue
growing our membership and making Lake Ashton
pickleball an even more fun and rewarding experience!
Coaches Corner: Working together makes a team
successful. Let’s continue working as a team, members
and board alike, to keep improving the pickleball
experience for everyone!
LA SWIM CLUB
By Sandy White
Congratulations to LA Swim Club swimmer Steve
Armstrong for bringing home two gold medals and
two silver medals from the Virginia Senior Games
swim championships in September!
Over the years, many LASC swimmers have earned
medals in Senior Games swim meets, and we hope
to see even more swimmers compete in this and
future seasons. Senior Games competitions are open
to adults ages 50 and older, with competition
divided by gender and five-year age groups.

A little history of the National Senior Games
movement, from nsga.com: “In the mid-1960s, the
National Recreation Association…developed a
‘Lifetime Sports’ program, which emphasized
getting individuals involved in sports which they
could compete in throughout their life span…. [In
1970] Warren W. Blaney, a Los Angeles businessman,
staged the first ‘Senior Olympics’ in Los Angeles….
From there, the movement spread from California to
other states. The first recurring games began in 1975
in Sanford, Florida. Today, several Senior Games
events are held throughout Florida each year,
including one in Polk County each March.
LASC will be represented at Sanford’s 51st annual
Golden Age Games on November 8 from 9 am to
noon at the Sanford Seminole Aquatic Center. Come
cheer on our team!
LA Swim Club is made up of both fitness and
competitive swimmers. Anyone who can swim two
lengths of the pool is invited to join us Mondays and
Wednesdays from 1 to 2 pm and Saturdays from
10 to 11 am at the HFC Indoor Pool.

Food for People • Herbs for Flavor • Flowers for
Pollinators • Community for All
Planting season is here, and we’re excited! Our
September seed-planting sessions were a success, and
by October, those seeds were already sprouting. We
also gathered for a garden cleanup to prepare our
space for the new season. Now, November promises
even more growth! While autumn up north is known for
its beautiful changing leaves, here in Florida, we
experience a different kind of seasonal beauty: the
changing seasons of what we grow. We’re also
researching microgreens and may host a session with a
local microgreens expert. Stay tuned for more details!
Our November meeting will be Wednesday, November
18, at 1:30 pm in the HFC Craft Room.
“In some places, the seasons change in color. In the
garden, they change in what we grow.

LA SINGLES CLUB
By Kathy Schlipp
The LA Singles Club meets on Sundays from 2 to 4
pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. The first Sunday of
each month is reserved for a business meeting,
followed by cards, usually Five Crowns. Often,
members head out to dinner together afterward.
There were 21 singles who attended the most
recent meeting! The club decided to adopt eight
Senior Orphans and provide Christmas gifts for
them this year. Caseworkers will share the
recipients’ Santa wish lists, which members will
fulfill to help make the holidays brighter. Members
also discussed future activities, including visits to
local restaurants and area attractions. All Lake
Ashton singles are welcome to join us!
PEBBLES & PINES SOCIAL

Residents enjoyed
a w o n d e r f u l
evening at the
September 28
Good Neighbor
Social at HFC.
They mingled with
neighbors,
discovered others
who had moved to
Florida from the
same states, made
new friends, and
enjoyed delicious
food. A special highlight was choosing a Good
Neighbor Rock, lovingly painted by the LA Rockers,
and sharing simple ways to be a good neighbor.
Beautiful handmade centerpieces, generously donated
by the Community Garden Club, and live African violet
plants donated by the Garden Club added a special
touch to the evening. With new friendships, shared
ideas, and plenty of smiles, the event was a wonderful
reminder that Lake Ashton is a community filled with
good neighbors!

GO TEAL FOR ALZHEIMER’S
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time
to increase understanding of Alzheimer’s disease
and show support for the more than 6.2 million
Americans living with it. The Alzheimer’s Foundation
of America encourages everyone to “Go Teal by
wearing teal, sharing information and helping raise
awareness. Teal is AFA’s awareness color and
represents a welcoming, comforting environment for
those affected by Alzheimer’s. November is also a
good time to prioritize brain health and learn about
available resources. AFA offers free, confidential
virtual memory screenings and a national helpline
staffed by licensed social workers trained in
dementia care. Learn more at alzfdn.org.

LA NINERS
By Pamela June
The LA Niners kicked off the new season with a Par 3
Scramble and Lunch with Friends. There was a
wonderful turnout for lunch, where everyone enjoyed
45
pizza, a VERY loaded salad bar and
those delicious, hot-out-of-the-oven
chocolate chip cookies! The cookies
alone are worth showing up for…but,
of course, the Niners’ spirit, laughter
and fun are always the best part.
Everyone received a raffle ticket, and
four lucky ladies went home with some
great prizes.
If you’ve been thinking about joining the LA Niners,
now is a great time! We’re an amazing group of ladies
who play nine holes every Tuesday morning, and our
league is open to everyone, regardless of skill level.
Whether you’ve been golfing for years or are still
figuring out where to put that little white ball, there’s a
place for you with the Niners! Simply complete a
membership form and pay the $35 annual league fee.
Forms are available at the Pro Shop, HFC and
Clubhouse, and you can start playing right away.
To participate in competitions, you’ll need a GHIN
handicap. To establish one, record your scores for three
18-hole rounds or six 9-hole rounds. GHIN tracks your
scores and calculates your handicap so golfers of
different skill levels can compete fairly. Current Niners, be
sure to keep your GHIN current and updated each year!
We’re looking forward to seeing our Snowbirds return
and having everyone join us for the LA Niners
Opening Festivities on November 3rd! You definitely
don’t want to miss the laughter, fun, camaraderie, and
prizes! We’ll be raffling off $20 gift cards! Tee It Up
with the Niners and attend Opening Festivities!
November Game Lineup:
November 3 – Tee It Up Tuesday Scramble
November 10 – 2 Best Nets
November 17 – Step Aside Scramble
November 24 – 4 Person Scramble
So dust off those clubs, update your GHIN and come
join us! Nine holes. Lots of laughs. Great friendships.
That’s how the LA Niners roll!

PINK RIBBON
GOLF
TOURNAMENT
By Lydia Fichtman
Lake Ashton is getting ready to GET YOUR PINK
ON! The Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament returns
November 14, proudly sponsored by Lake Ashton
Golf Management, with 100% of funds raised
donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation of Central
Florida (BCFCF). This 501(c)(3) organization helps
ease the financial burden for local breast cancer
patients and their families by providing assistance
with essential non-medical expenses, including
housing, utilities, transportation, gasoline and
childcare. The Foundation also offers a Children’s
Fund and holiday assistance. Last year, our amazing
community raised more than $65,000 through
sponsors, donations, silent auctions and tournament
registrations. This year’s goal is to meet or exceed
that incredible total! Every dollar raised helps make a
meaningful difference for families right here in
Central Florida.
The four-person scramble costs $45 for members and
$75 for non-members and includes a continental
breakfast, a round of golf, lunch generously provided
by Glory Days and a donation to BCFCF. Register at
the Pro Shop as a foursome, pair or individual by
November 7.
Sponsorship opportunities range from $50 to $1,000,
and forms are available on the Lake Ashton website.
You don’t have to golf to participate! Volunteers are
needed to help make this special day a success. If
you’d like to lend a hand, contact Lydia Fichtman at
215-290-9375 or Rita Lee at 484-431-4243.
A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has already
donated, sponsored, volunteered or supported this
event. Lake Ashton has never failed to rise to a
challenge, and this year will be no different. Let’s
come together, have some fun, support an incredible
cause and light up Lake Ashton pink!
