Valley chapter into the future. Reach out to
the newer generation of designers, architects,
engineers, product reps, and contractors that
you interface with daily and invite them to lunch
or to a chapter meeting. Introduce them to
the importance of face-to-face networking and
developing trusted advisors. You will benefit
from the enlightened interaction and they will
benefit from your wisdom and experience.
Jon Lattin
As we close in on the end of 2019, what
are you thankful for? As the current president
of your chapter, I have a lot to be thankful for,
both personally and professionally. A healthy
and loving family and a strong industry have
provided stability and joy in my life. My
association with CSI has blessed me in other
ways.
• I am grateful for family gatherings with my
extended CSI family. From our first annual
kickball game and pumpkin carving parties
with the AIA to MARC 2019 and Construct
with our region and institute friends.
• I am thankful for volunteers. Day in and
day out, volunteers are the lifeblood of any
organization and the Greater Lehigh Valley
is blessed with some of the best around.
Through steadfast dedication and a personal
commitment to the chapter, these volunteers
plan event logistics, develop and manage
education, maintain communications, interface
with the region and institute, and quietly ensure
the chapter continues to flourish and grow.
However, volunteers get tired and need help.
It takes a village to raise a family and it takes
a village to maintain a healthy chapter. Now
is the time to act, if you can devote an hour or
twenty, we have tasks for you!
I am
proud to say the fellowship gained in CSI
extends beyond the monthly meetings and has
flourished into long lasting friendships.
• I am thankful for youthfulness. An influx of
younger people into CSI provides diverse views
and energy that help propel the Greater Lehigh
• I am appreciative of the education that I
have acquired in CSI. CSI is working hard
to elevate the value of the CDT and advanced
certifications to make them as valuable and
recognizable as the AIA or PE designation.
Unlike all of the other organizations, CSI
pulls members from the entire AEC community
4
׉	7cassandra://alvN15s95wnhChJ0OZZvmtDTZy1EbWuPi_OGr73mUawH`K]9{
׉Einto one room and this broad membership
continues to provide invaluable opportunities
for education and professional growth that
can’t be found elsewhere.
• I am thankful for the charity that our
chapter provides.
Through Canstruction,
our local industry continues to donate tens of
thousands of pounds of food yearly to those
in need. Through our educational outreach,
we are introducing our youth to the industry
at large through programs like Let’s Build
and participation in our yearly product Expo.
Financially, we support college students with
educational scholarships.
My cup runneth over with thanks for all that we
as an organization were able to achieve this
past year. I am a member of a national car
club and they often say “It’s not about the cars,
it’s about the people.” I believe that sentiment
applies to CSI as well. Although many of us
joined CSI purely for professional reasons, I
honestly believe it’s the people that keep us
active and make us want to stay. As you enjoy
your holidays with family and friends, take a
minute to reflect on your past year and make
plans to get involved in 2020. I promise you
that the benefit to both you and the chapter will
have you counting your blessings too.
Respectfully,
Jon Lattin
