Each week, after the local farmers market winds down, a quiet but powerful ministry takes root. Volunteers gather up produce that the Farmers generously give. We take and sort them and place them into blessing boxes around town. From abundance, we share. This ministry of gleaning echoes the ancient practices of our faith, where fields were not harvested to the edges so that those in need could come and find food (Leviticus 19:9–10). It reminds us that God’s provision often flows through the hands of those willing to pick up what others leave behind—and share it without condition. In a season when many are traveling, resting, or stepping back from routine, this ministry invites us to remain rooted in compassion. It doesn’t take a committee or a big program. Just willing hearts, open hands, and a little extra time on a Saturday. Each water spinach placed in the blessing box, each cucumber and squash is more than food—it is a sign of grace. A reminder that Christ calls us to bear fruit that will last (John 15:16), and that sometimes, lasting fruit begins in the simplest acts of generosity. If he gets that to me in time I would like to mention in the newsletter that everything is finalized and will be presented to One Council for their consideration and decision. Also, a reminded that whoever is in charge of a meeting or event is responsible for making sure that the thermostat is set as designated on the sign attached, lights turned off, no water running and doors locked. I have found a light or lights left on almost every week. During the coldest weather we had during the winter I found the heat in the the rock house turned off.
