HAVE VISITORS?
November is a traditional time for residents to host family
and friends. Remember, when you see a visiting
grandchild, they are guests of your neighbors so please
extend every courtesy possible. Residents: please be
tolerant of extra activity at the pool and other amenities.
Those hosting family should remind them to be
considerate of residents in this 55 and older community. It
is helpful if a resident accompanies their guests at any of
the amenities, but is not required.
Anyone using amenities at the Clubhouse or HFC
should have a Lake Ashton Resident ID Card or Facilities
Guest Pass. All guests can be registered at either
Activities Desk during business hours. Renters must
have a copy of their fully executed rental agreement.
Visit the Clubhouse Activities Office to get your resident
photo identification made on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays from noon to 3 pm, or by appointment.
Bring a driver's license with your Lake Ashton address
on it, or the warranty deed for your home. The
application can be filled out at the Clubhouse Activities
Desk or can be found online at lakeashtoncdd.com.

CARING TREE
By Larry & Joanne Hillock
It's time to think of the families in our area that
need help to provide a happy holiday for their
families. Early this month the Caring Tree will be
in the Clubhouse Ballroom loaded with gift
tags. These tags are suggestions for gifts that will
be given to deserving families in partnership with
the Lake Wales Care Center. The gifts must be
new and unwrapped. We will collect the gifts and
deliver them to the Care Center's distribution
center. Parents will select a gift for their family
and volunteers will help them with wrapping.
Lake Ashton has been a strong supporter of this
very worthwhile activity for over 15 years and we

TOYS FOR TOTS
By Fred Halde
Thank you, Lake Ashton. Since I have taken over
responsibility for the pickup and delivery of the Tots
for Toys box here, you have never failed to come
through. Lake Ashton is one of the prime locations
for the collection of toys for this community
outreach. There will again be a Toys for Tots box in
the HFC from the early part of November thru mid
December. I hope you will again express your love
for children and support for families by giving
generously. Thanks again Lake Ashton, for always
being there for others!

Dan Rosen began
planning about 9
months ago to
volunteer in Israel. It
involved lots of
paperwork, letters of
recommendation, and
interviews via Zoom
which he completed.
Dan arrived in Israel a
week before the war
broke out, touring Haifa
in the North prior to his volunteer assignment. He met
up with his volunteer group the day after War was
declared. He had the option to return home, but felt it
important to stay and serve. He is spending 2 weeks
packing medical supplies for the Israeli Defense Force
(IDF) on an Israeli base close to Tel Aviv. The several
volunteers are from all over the world. Of course, there
are IDF soldiers staying on the base also. They have had
to take shelter when the sirens blare, having 40 seconds
to feel completely safe. Dan and Nancy have been to
Israel several times before, and had always felt safe.
Sadly, things are very different now. Nancy is trying to
keep busy with friends from Michigan visiting her, and
can't wait for Dan’s return and his volunteer stories.

November is the start of the holiday season when
family plans are made, and we begin thinking about
decorations! Your Lake Ashton II CDD Staff and Board
of Directors have been working to make sure our
amenities and programs are ready for residents and
their guests during this time. It's gratifying to see all the
events held at the HFC are so well attended! On
October 6, we hosted a corn hole tournament that
attracted over 8 high-powered teams to compete for
bragging rights, medals and gift cards. The
competition was fierce, and Team Popcorn came in
First Place. Thanks to all who participated, and we look
forward to your return at our next tournament.
A Breast Cancer Awareness Walk for the Cure was held
on October 13, with over 130 participants. Everyone
turned out wearing pink, and was rewarded with
refreshments and shirts at the end of the trek. Breast
cancer information and awareness presentation was
given. This is a worthy endeavor as this disease has
touched many of us here in Lake Ashton. In keeping
with the Spirit of Halloween," ghosts and goblins
gathered at the HFC for a dance with music provided
by DJ Wayne on October 13. Over 200 participated
with awards for: Best Overall, Most Original and
Scariest Costumes. There certainly was some
paranormal revelry as everyone enjoyed the event. The
Lake Ashton Veterans Association USO Dance will be
held at the HFC on November 10, with music provided
by the Good Stuff Band." Snacks will be provided, and everyone (you do not have to be a veteran to attend) is
invited for a great night of dancing and camaraderie! Tickets are now on sale at the HFC. See you there!
Mark your calendars for the Holiday Dance on December 15, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., the HFC. Music will be
provided by Tony Knight. There will also be the Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade starting at the HFC and
ending at the Clubhouse on December 15, so begin working on your decorating ideas for your carts! Get your
tickets now for the HFC New Years Eve Gala Event, featuring a 12-piece band! Snacks and a Champagne Toast
at midnight will be provided. This is a great way to usher in the New Year with friends and neighbors. The Lake
Ashton II CDD Board met on September 15 and discussed various topics regarding the amenity policy and
updates to real property improvement. Residents can access the Minutes of the meeting at the Lake Ashton II
District website (lakeashton2dd.com) for details. All residents are encouraged to attend and make their voices
heard.

Central
Native Plants of
Florida
By Lynn Davis
Iris domestica best known is as blackberry lily
has become one of my favorite plants. The beauty
of the delicate speckled flowers and the flattened
fan-like stem make this a plant worth noting in any
garden. Standing as tall as two to three feet with
flowers around two inches, it is a great companion
to just any plant. It gets its name from the clusters
of shiny black seeds in seedpods that resemble
blackberries.
The blackberry lily is also known as the leopard lily.
Yet, it’s not a lily at all. It belongs to the species of
irises. Like irises, its rhizomes are to be planted
shallow or risk being root rotted. Otherwise, this is
an excellent low maintenance flowering plant.
Why plant blackberry lily in your garden?
This plant needs little care. It likes sun and it does
tolerate some shade. It doesn’t require pruning. It
will produce more blooms if you decide to prune.
You can save the seedpods and plant more in other
areas of your garden. It’s not fussy about soil nor
does it require daily watering. The lily is a perennial
living around two years, but the seeds from the
pods will keep producing. The only downfall is the
plant is toxic to human and pets.
WETLANDS AND
CONSERVATION AREAS OF
LAKE ASHTON
Many of Lake Ashton's wetlands and conservation areas
are important to our community in a number of ways.
They serve many functions like protect against flooding,
improve water quality, and provide a home for
threatened and protected species. Wetlands in Lake
Ashton clean the storm water that is referred to as
“runoff”. After that, this water goes to Lake Ashton.
When the water gets to
the lake, it will go through
the outfall structure, which
is on the southwest shore
of the lake. After that, the
water will go to Peace
Creek and then to the
Peace River. The Peace
River can overflow and
flood when it rains a lot.
This could cause lakes and ponds to have higher than
normal water levels, which will be felt by the residents in
Lake Ashton. Our aquatics vendor and Lake Ashton
CDD staff work together all the time to make sure that
our wetlands are being managed properly. If there are
any questions or concerns, email Matt Fisher at
mfisher@lakeashtoncdd.com. Residents are reminded
that they should not do any unauthorized maintenance
in these areas.

Curbing work on
Ventana Lane is
The Wood Stork is a species that has made a
successful comeback in Florida. As a year-round resident
at Lake Ashton, this large wading bird resembles a
vulture in that it has no feathers on its head. The black
flight feathers have an iridescent green that shines
brilliantly in the Florida sun. It wades with its bill in the
water partly open to snatch up fish, aquatic insects,
snakes, frogs, rodents, turtles and even baby alligators
for a nutritious meal. They are a little comical looking
when resting on the ground with their pink toes
extended forward and their knees bent in the wrong
direction. If you consider that their legs are like our arms
then this posture makes sense. This is the only native
stork species in North America and it doesn't wander
far from Florida. With broad wings they can be
observed circling high above with vultures, eagles and
Anhingas.

throughout the community as safely as possible to avoid
a ticket and more importantly, an accident.
The following excerpt was taken from Florida
State Statute 316.1945 Stopping, standing, or
parking prohibited in specified places. For the
full statue, scan the QR code with your smartphone.
No person shall stand or park a vehicle, whether
occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or
discharge a passenger or passengers:
1. In front of a public or private driveway.
2. Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
3. Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
4. Within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing
signal, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at the
side of a roadway.
Keep in mind the streets in Lake Ashton are very narrow
and there are many forms of traffic which heightens the
danger during busy times. The information listed above
will be passed along to vendors to ensure they are
following the established state statutes.
The following items will also help to alleviate dangerous
situations on the road.
• Do not park a vehicle directly parallel to another
vehicle.
• Do not park on a curve.
• Park as close to the curb as possible.
18
Residents can help by informing vendors that are
performing work at their home of the parking "good
practices" above. With everyone's help the streets of
Lake Ashton will be as safe as possible.
STATE OF FLORIDA SETS
NEW GOLF CART AGE
REQUIREMENTS
Recent state legislation changes have increased the age
for golf cart drivers. The law requires that a person
operating a golf cart on public roads or streets who is
under 18 years of age must possess a valid learner’s
permit or driver’s license. Lake Wales PD and Winter
Haven PD can issue a ticket for violations of this law.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
By Brenda Jackson, NW PR Liaison
According to USPS and the Financial Crimes
Enforcement Network’s recent alert, check fraud has
surged to 680K up from 350K in 2022. Criminals are
targeting residential mailboxes to steal signed checks
and then use a technique known as “check washing” to
scam you out of your money. “Check washing” allows
criminals to erase your writing on your check such as the
payee and the amount. Once the payment information
is blank, they can fill in new information. In one reported
case, a man mailed a $42 check to pay his phone bill,
but when it was cashed, the bank showed it as $7,000
and made out to someone he didn’t know. While check
usage is declining, as of 2022 Americans still wrote $3.4
billion checks, giving criminals plenty of opportunity for
fraud. Don’t let this happen to you!
If you write checks, then protect yourself by:
• Remove mail daily from your mailbox
• Take it to the post office
• Hand directly to your carrier
• Use the mail drop boxes here in LA located at the
Clubhouse and HFC
Stay tuned each month as we identity and unravel the
scams and tactics used to separate us from our money
or steal our personal information. For questions or
concerns, please contact Deputy Chief, Joan DiBattista
at 239-851-7899.

By Mike Weissberg
Since all residents are part of Neighborhood Watch you are watching things around you. Citizens Assisted Patrol
(CAP) does this by patrolling the streets and looking for things that do not belong in the community. Our patrol
presence with lights flashing is our deterrent to help keep our streets safe. CAP is always looking for more
volunteers to be the eyes, ears and presence for the Sheriff’s Department. Patrols are once a week for two
hours. Applications are available in the Clubhouse and HFC. For more information contact Mike Weissberg
917-482-3151. There will be a meeting November 1 at 7 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom.
ENTRANCE GATE
SAFETY
REMINDERS
Residents driving motorcycles
should stop at the stop sign and
use their gate remote to enter the
community. If you do not have
your remote, you should go to the
visitors side to be processed.
Residents and visitors who hit the
gate arms at the entrances to
Lake Ashton may be charged the
full replacement value of the gate
arm in addition to any repairs to
the operators, as needed. Please
use caution and do not tailgate.
The gates are set to close after
each vehicle so tailgating could
result in a costly mistake.

Need to Know
Some people decide to retire early and start taking their
Social Security Retirement benefit at the earliest age possible.
But, with many people unable to live out their retirement plans
due to inadequate retirement savings, many are spending
retirement working another job. However, some people enjoy
working and want to do so during retirement. It’s appealing
to be able to work part-time or where you have an interest or
start a small business while making an income and receiving
Social Security retirement benefits.
While early retirement and a part-time job may be of interest
to you, they can affect your Social Security Retirement
benefits if you aren’t full retirement age. Your Social Security
retirement benefits may be subject to taxes if your combined
income, Social Security, and wages exceed a certain
threshold. Combined income is your adjusted gross income
plus one-half of your Social Security benefit plus any income
earned from tax-exempt interest income. There is no age
limit, including income from all sources, earned or unearned.
Often, retirees are confused about the impact of working in
retirement. You can still collect Social Security benefits, but
earning above a certain amount may reduce your monthly
benefit. Here are a few things you need to know about
working and drawing Social Security Retirement benefits:
•
If you are drawing benefits and you are younger than your
full retirement age (FRA), Social Security will deduct $1
from your benefits for every $2 or $3 you earn above a
certain amount.
•
After you reach full retirement age, Social Security
will increase your benefits to account for the money it
withheld earlier.
• Earned income is income from work or self-employment
and includes your salary, bonus, or net self-employment
income.

• Any benefits that reduce due to too much earned income
are not truly lost and will be added to your benefit once
you reach your FRA.

Use the Social Security Retirement Earnings Test Calculator
to determine if you are at risk for reduced Social Security
benefits if you continue working. Social Security can be
confusing, and if you have any questions regarding your
benefits, including when to claim them, contact your local

Suppose you plan to take Social Security Retirement benefits
early and continue to work. In that case, you can modify
your financial plan to reflect how working may or may not
benefit you when it comes to your benefits. Once your
financial professional has run your Social Security Retirement
benefits and income scenario, you can make a more informed
decision. Contact your financial professional today regarding
how working in retirement may impact your situation.

Know Thy Health
By Lynda Hadley
It’s that time of the year when we get together
and enjoy the holiday season with family and
friends. With the good times and great parties,
come delicious foods and drinks that make this
time of the year special. We are so busy
preparing, planning and attending events that we
don’t seem to notice the extra inches that quietly
accumulate around our mid-section. Most of us
won’t notice this holiday expansion until the new
year, when we once again vow to eat healthier
and exercise more.
I once subscribed to this mental reasoning that
allowed guilt-free indulgence of the high
sugars, carbs, and fats that tend to dominate
holiday foods. It wasn’t until I found those
extra pounds staying well into the new year,
that I could no longer ignore the mental
aerobics I was doing to justify overindulging.
Keep reading for an alternative way of thinking to
keep you off the “deal with it later” roller coaster
where you can treat the extra pounds like
unwanted houseguests. If you understand how
the extra pounds accumulate, you have some
control over them. Our best defense is portion
control, because whatever our body doesn’t use
(burn for fuel) within 2 hours will be converted to
fat and stored. So, eating smaller portions of your
favorite foods and saving some to enjoy later is a
great way to minimize holiday weight gain. Be
selective and remember that holiday drinks may
contain just as many (if not more) calories than
some foods. Slow down and allow your body
time to signal that you are full. Holiday gatherings
are made more special with tasty treats to enjoy;
but overindulging can lead to years of health
problems if we are not mindful.

by scanning the QR code above, online, or at the
Clubhouse Activities Office.

CLUBS
AUXILIARY
By Chris Graves
The next meeting for the LAVA Auxiliary is scheduled for
November 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse Ballroom,
close to the stage. Membership is open to any Lake
Ashton resident; you do not have to have served in the
military or had a family member in the military. You only
need to love our country and want to help us support
veterans and active military. It can be something as simple
as sending holiday cards to the military, to events such as
our Annual Craft Fair. Funds raised at last month’s Craft
Fair will be discussed at the November meeting. The
money raised will benefit the K9 Partners for
Patriots. Thank you to everyone who helped with the
Craft Fair! It is you, the resident volunteers, who make this
event successful. Thank you, Charm City, for funds for the
hot dogs and providing their yummy homemade chips for
visitors to purchase. They have been very supportive
without our even asking. Not to mention that their food is
very tasty and servers are very friendly. Nick and crew,
please know that we are very happy that you have come
to our community! God Bless America!
LA BELLES
By Joan DiBattista
The Holiday LA Belles luncheon, which encompasses the
November and December meetings, will take place on
November 29 at noon at L'Incontro Italian Restaurant in
Lake Wales and will be limited to 35 ladies. This will be a
fun time to enjoy the holiday season together. Contact
Tammy Shields 863-632-2024 or Carole Erickson
828-772-4984 with questions. Sign up online or at the
Clubhouse Activities Office. (FYI - L'Incontro charges an
extra fee when using a credit card for payment.)
CAMERA CLUB
By Larry Hillock
The meeting on October 9 kicked off the 2023 – 2024
season. A lot of good suggestions were made as to
potential club activities. Plans will be developed for
outings to Circle Bar B Reserve, Bok Tower Gardens and
other locations. Contacts are being made to invite guest
speakers to club meetings. As the LA snowbirds begin
their migration south, we look forward to another good
season for sharing our enjoyment of photography. The
Camera Club is open to all residents regardless of their
skill level. Meetings are held on the second Monday of the
month at 10:30 am in the Cinema. As always you are
encouraged to bring along a few pictures on a USB drive
to share and discuss with the group. Next meeting will be
held on November 13.

GARDEN CLUB
By Lynn Davis
Lake Ashton’s Garden Club’s recent meeting was held
on October 11 in the Pavilion. The club holds its
meetings every second Wednesday of every month at
10 am in the Pavilion. Pam Klawinski gave a presentation
on Fall Flower Blooms. Hand-outs were provided and
many plant give-a-ways were for the taking. Attendees
learned about the beauty of fall plants native to this area.
Alice Hearn provided free rain lilies and seedpods for
blackberry lilies. The next Garden Club meeting will be
November 8. Judy Perry will present making wine
vinaigrette dressing with herbs. Those choosing to
attend should notify Lynn Davis at crladavis@aol.com.

Discuss His Real Estate Work
Excellent
Our experience with Brad was exceptional! Our transaction
was unique in that, Brad worked with us from out of state. He
was not only extremely talented as a Real Estate agent, but
much more. He took a vested interest in our situation from day
one. He is an excellent communicator, tremendous in detail,
and went way beyond expectations throughout the process.
Also, he is very caring and personal as an advocate, doing what
ever it takes to not only to satisfy, but truly puts himself in the
shoes of his client. I felt as though he was engaging as if it were
his own home to sale. We’ve been involved in many real estate
transactions over many years, and Brad is the best agent we’ve
ever experienced! He is the real deal and I highly recommend
him. You won’t be disappointed!

By Sandy White
Longtime Club member Sharron Swanson, who works
full time and uses early morning swimming for fitness
and job stress relief, brought home a gold and three
silver medals from a new senior swim meet in Charlotte
County the first Sat in October. It's part of the Florida
Senior Games program that our club has been
participating in for over four years. See more games
info below. Other good news: Several more swimmers
have almost reached their 100 mile swim goal. All
members know that:
• Swimming is one of the best ways to stay or get
healthy.
• Swimming with others is safer and more fun than
alone.
• Improving swimming skills helps one to be more
efficient in the water, and helps one be ready to
rescue a grandchild if ever needed.
Come swim with us and get fit. Mondays at 6 pm,
Wednesdays at 1 pm, and Saturdays at 10 am at the
HFC Pool.
The Senior Games are a nationwide program of around
30 sports that includes age group swimming, with
distances from 50 to 500 yards. There are two gender
and 10 age groups, plus all the events you would find in
a high school or YMCA swim meet. Medals are
awarded to the top three in each event, plus the top
five in each event qualify for the state championships
each December.
SINGLES CLUB
By Maureen Ziegler
LA Singles is a social group that plans activities for
single residents. The group meets on the first Sunday
of each month at 2 pm in the Clubhouse
Ballroom. Over 30 people attended the October
meeting and discussed future events. Karen Nelson
will obtain 12 names for the Senior Orphans
Christmas Outreach. The group will provide gifts to
each based on their wish list. Donations will be taken
but most important, shoppers will be needed. The
Woodworkers are having a yard sale November 4 in
the Ballroom. Jerry Elmers has paid for a table so that
42
singles can display items they wish to sell. Contact
Jerry if you have items to display. The Single Mingle
will be held in the Pavilion November 16 from 4 to 6
pm. Volunteers are needed to set up. Deb Kreider will
host the Christmas party in her home December 15 at
5:30 pm. Athene has booked reservations at the
Jacaranda Hotel in Avon Park on January 4, 2024 for
lunch. It will still be decorated for Christmas. If you
would like to take part in activities with other singles,
attend the meeting on November 5.
LA TRAVELERS
By Maureen Sim
The rally last month was held in Webster, FL at the
Sunshine Village Resort. The weather was definitely
on our side. Mornings started at 58 degrees and
afternoons were in the low 80s. Coffees were held
each morning and many newer members found that
other members were from the same general areas in
other states. The opening event was the world
famous Webster Flea Market and Antique Sale
covering acres of ‘’bargains and rare finds.”
Participants also toured Weeki Wachee Springs and
the Chase Wild Animal Rescue-with hands on
experiences such as petting and playing with lemurs.
Shopping was very interesting at the 150 year old
Rich Loam General Store complete with Amish
products. Several folks also visited the Florida
National Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell — as serene
as Arlington. Some enjoyed a 20 mile bike ride or a
water aerobics class. Daily socials were held with
BYOD and snacks followed by a catered dinner or
pizza night. We laughed heartily at Lucille Ball and
Robin Williams comedies of their versions of RVing
and held a game night with LCR and Bingo with lots
of prizes. Next Rally in Punta Gorda complete with
the air show! On November 14, former and current
members of the LA Travelers will gather to celebrate
the 20th Anniversary of
the founding of this
FMCA Chapter. Watch for
emails with more details.

By Annie Lutz
HEARTFELT HUGS
By MJ Richards
LA Rockers is a wonderful group that spreads acts of
kindness to the LA Community. You never know
what a small painted rock can do to someone’s day,
outlook, or even their life. It’s about sharing a little
message of encouragement to someone who needs
it. It’s about bringing smiles to our neighbors. It’s
about welcoming new neighbors.
As our group continues to grow, we are learning new
skills and techniques, and sharing ideas. Although
there are many talented artists in the group, most
are crafters who enjoy gathering to use their
creativity and imagination while having fun without
any pressure. We are currently creating rocks for 2
service projects for the coming holidays. We are
working with the LA Singles group with their holiday
project. We will also be providing rocks to Water’s
Edge residents, and we are really excited to be
providing a class for their residents to learn how to
paint rocks in January.
LA Rockers will meet in the HFC Ballroom from 2 to
4 pm on the first and third Wednesday of the month
(November 1 and 15). The 1st Wednesday will be for
current members to learn new skills and techniques.
The 3rd Wednesday is a “Free Paint” session where
newcomers are welcome to join the group.
Newcomers will be lent the supplies they need for
their first session, but contact MJ Richards
(mjmrichards517@gmail.com) at least five days
before their first meeting so that supplies can be
provided. Join us to share those smiles one rock at a
time!

Heartfelt Hugs is a service group consisting of
crocheters and knitters creating baby blankets and
hats for all sized babies (from very premature to
newborn). Some of these may be used for
bereavement.
The blankets will be donated to two local groups:
Winter Haven Women’s Hospital and Catholic
Charities. We create these items in our own homes,
at our own pace, with no meetings to attend. (We
may at some point in time gather for coffee or lunch
to all meet each other!)
You can choose your own pattern, colors, and size
from receiving to crib. All you have to do is email me
at mjmrichards517@gmail.com to express your
interest in joining the group, start crocheting or
knitting, and when you are finished with one or two
(or more), drop them off at my home for delivery. It’s
easy and so worthwhile. Please consider joining this
group!

GOLF
NINERS

In case some of
you don’t know
us, here we are at
Opening Day
(fr om left to
right): Secretary
Marti Schmidt,
President Janet
Mutz, Treasurer
MaryLou Jameson, and Vice President Denise
LaCaprucia. Shout out to Diane for suggesting we
clown around. Just a quick reminder that the
Board’s term is 2-years and we will need a Vice
President and Secretary before our term ends in
April. It’s never too early to ask! November will
bring our collection for Senior Orphans. This year
we are asking for individually wrapped snacks to
put in nursing home care packages. We will collect
November 7th and 14th and deliver them in time
for holiday baskets. Thanks in advance for all your
support. Golf tip for this month: ready golf. Be
thinking about your next shot as you drive to your
ball. Be considerate of your fellow golfers and
keep practice swings to a minimum. Pace of Play
means keep the foursome in front of you in sight.
Numbers will start to increase with the return of
snowbirds, and we need to complete our 9-holes
in 2-hours. We’re back to starting at 9:30 am and
gathering in the parking lot adjacent to Mulligan
Way. Looking forward to seeing you there! Still
have questions? Ready to join? Contact Denise at

November is the beginning of a great new golf season.
There are so many opportunities to golf, give, and
compete. Mark your calendar to participate in our first
tournament November 7 — 8 with the LAMGA men’s
group. Sign up sheets have been posted in the Pro Shop.
The two day tournament includes lunch on the second
day, and bring extra money for a 50/50 share the wealth.
Opening day luncheon is scheduled for November 14
after golf. The theme is ”Let The Games Begin!” Get your
favorite sports attire ready, be it golf, football, baseball etc.
You get the idea! We will also have a 50/50 share the
wealth on that day. Our first opportunity to give will be a
food drive November 7-14. Boxes will be placed in the Pro
Shop to drop off your donations or we will collect them
before golf on Tuesday. The donations will be split half and
half between Lake Wales Care Center and the Mission in
Winter Haven. Your next opportunity will be a Toy Drive
December 5th – December 18 and again we will have a
box placed int the pro shop or you can donate before golf.
You do not need to be a golfer to donate. January will be
our last fundraiser We Care for Kids. More information to

With two months remaining in the LAMGA season,
November brings a busy agenda for the league and its
board of directors. A two-day mixer on November 7 and 8
will bring together LAMGA and LALGA members. Sign up
in the Pro Shop for this special event. The LAMGA board
has three directors’ seats up for election. Be on the
lookout for emailed self-nomination sheets. Voting
takes place the latter part of November. Instructions
will be forthcoming to members. For information
about what a director’s position involves, check the
LAMGA bylaws on the league’s web page at
LakeAshtonLiving.com or contact league President
Rolly Geyer.
Registration for the 2024 season will launch in December.
Printable forms will be emailed to members and posted
online on the LAMGA home page at
LakeAshtonLiving.com. It is important to sign up for the
next season and pay the $25 registration fee to ensure
your eligibility for league play in 2024. The annual LAMGA
meeting will take place after league play on Dec. 6, with
lunch included.
Red Hoagland Hyundai Challenge update: Through the
end of September, the standings are: 1. John Milsom,
$163.25; 2. Doug Hines, $146.50; 3. Paul Panone, $144.75;
4. Rolly Geyer, $129.75.
Sponsor spotlight: This month we thank and highlight the
following LAMGA sponsors who provide services and
goods to the local community: Charm City restaurant,
Lake Wales Family Restaurant, Ovation Bistro & Bar,
Schack’s Bar-B-Que, Sizzling Grill, Golden Nails, and Posh
Salon and Day Spa, Inc. We also thank two individuals
who have generously supported the league: Ann and
Todd McCarthy.
