DIRECTOR'S UPDATE
All Together Now! We celebrate summer reading this
year with a theme of unity, working together to promote
literacy. We encourage students to keep reading all
summer by signing up for this annual reading event and
attending programs in June and July.
This self-paced
reading module is offered to all ages online. Anyone can
participate even when not able to visit the library. We are
excited to offer an expansive array of summer programs
for adults this year and parents can read right along with
their children.
The Library launched a new
service Books By Mail in 2023
for persons who are temporarily
or permanently homebound.
Eligible persons may fill out
an application to request this
service.
Once registered,
homebound persons can receive
their favorite
books delivered
to their front door! If you are interested in the service,
please call the Library at 419-625-3834 and press 7 to
receive an application.

visit Sandusky in late summer. We
welcome you to come learn about
the storied history and important
message of this peace vessel, a
project of Veterans for Peace. The
Library will host a program about
The Golden Rule on Tuesday,

Hunger Alliance to provide summer snacks to children
between the ages of 4 and 18. Snacks will be distributed
Monday thru Friday from 12:00-12:45 p.m. in the Frohman
Room beginning June 5, 2022. Each snack contains items
from each of the 5 MyPlate food groups. Each snack is
provided free of charge through the Children’s Hunger
Alliance.

Ethnic Sandusky

Sandusky was built by people from many parts of the world -
Germany, Italy, Ireland, and West Africa, just to name a few
places. In commemoration of Immigrant Heritage Month,
Special Collections Librarian Ron Davidson will discuss the
stories of our ancestors: where they came from, why they
came here, what they brought with them (material goods
and traditions), and what they did when they got here.

David Breithaupt who walked off with $50,000 worth of rare
books and documents from the college to John Dillinger
who hit banks all over Ohio, and Alvin Karpis who robbed
a train in Garrettsville and a mail truck in Warren. Jane Ann
Turzillo will tell the stories of some of the best heists in the
history of Ohio.
Battle of Lake Erie

The Battle of Lake Erie was the turning point for supremecy
of the great lakes during the War of 1812. Learn about the
lead up to the battle, the battle itself, and how its outcome
effected the War of 1812.
CEMETERY WALK
Civil War Soldiers Cemetery Walk
Thursday, May 25, at 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Our area has a rich history when it comes to the
Civil War. Not only do we have Johnson's Island, the
prisoner of war camp that held Confederate officers,
but we had many men from this area who served during
the war. During this walk we will be visiting graves of
soldiers who served during the Civil War from this area
who died during the war. We will be discussing the lives
of these soldiers before and during their service, along
with how they died and their burials.
As this is a walking tour, wear appropriate shoes
and outerwear and be prepared to stand or walk for
at least an hour.
Oakland Cemetery & Memorial Park is a municipal
cemetery located just south of Perkins Avenue on
